Join us at Circus Artspace for this pop-up group exhibition co-ordinated by Circus Fellow Claire Gordon. This exhibition will serve as a testament to a collaborative curatorial process and the transformative power of embracing the 'awkward'. It celebrates the unique character of both the objects and the space, transforming them both into a compelling artistic experience.
Featuring artists:

Do you have a sculpture that's a little too big, a little too strange, a little too… awkward?
Has it been relegated to the back of your studio, the loft, or the bottom of the garden but you can’t quite bring yourself to kick it to the kerb? We're looking for sculptural "outcasts" to participate in Awkward Objects, an experimental exhibition exploring the challenges and possibilities of exhibiting unconventional artworks in an equally unconventional space.
Awkward Objects will be held at Circus Artspace on Carsegate Road, Inverness. This unique venue presents a raw and challenging environment, devoid of traditional white walls and plinths. The exhibition aims to embrace the "awkwardness" of both the space and the artworks, fostering a dialogue between the two. We are seeking artists who are excited to push the boundaries of traditional exhibition practices and explore innovative ways of presenting their work.
This project is lead by current Circus Fellow Claire Gordon.
This open call offers a unique opportunity to engage in a two-day workshop focused on revitalising your sculpture within a dynamic community of fellow artists and their unconventional works. The workshop will be a collaborative process, bringing participating artists together to:
Discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by the awkward space.
Brainstorm and develop innovative installation strategies.
Collaboratively curate the exhibition, fostering a sense of shared ownership and creative exchange.
Explore possible performative and interactive elements to activate the sculptures and engage the audience.
The culmination of the workshop will be a public exhibition showcasing the participating artists' work.
This open call is ideal for artists who:
Have a large, unwieldy, or otherwise "awkward" sculpture that presents unique exhibition challenges.
Are interested in experimental and collaborative curatorial practices.
Are comfortable and even excited about working within a non-traditional exhibition space.
Are eager to explore the full potential of their work beyond the confines of the "white cube" gallery.
Are open to sharing their creative process, exchanging ideas, and collaborating closely with other artists.
We strongly encourage artists with sculptural "outcasts" to apply and join us in resurrecting these forgotten creations, giving them a new and vibrant life!
